The consolidation risks facing the OnePlus brand

OnePlus faces significant instability following the April 2026 restructuring that merged it with realme under OPPO management. The brand's withdrawal from US and European markets and the integration of Indian users into the OPPO service network threaten its status as a standalone entity.

The consolidation risks facing the OnePlus brand

I see massive instability in the OnePlus brand following the April 2026 corporate restructuring. OPPO consolidated OnePlus and realme into a new subsidiary division to streamline operations. Li Bingzhong, the Senior Vice President of OPPO, oversees this combined entity as General Manager. Xu Qi, the former President of Marketing and Services at realme, heads the marketing and service strategies for this new division. Li Jie leads the dedicated subsidiary product center, and Wang Wei is the Deputy General Manager of that center. Li Jie reports to the OnePlus CEO, Liu Zuohu. The R&D transition remains a risk because the entire realme R&D team moved into the OPPO Group. This move makes imaging and hardware departments secondary divisions within the corresponding OPPO systems. The strategic decision to consolidate the OnePlus and realme brands under the management of Li Bingzhong and Xu Qi aims to increase market competitiveness through unified marketing and service strategies across all of the available global product channels. This consolidation also means that realme operations relocated in batches to the OPPO Binhaiwan headquarters. The newly formed subsidiary product center includes both domestic and overseas product departments. You should watch how this affects the brand’s identity. I believe the loss of brand autonomy is the primary risk here.

Market withdrawal and software

The July 2026 withdrawal from the US and Europe creates a massive void for long-term users. OnePlus confirmed this exit after a thorough evaluation of its regional roadmap and product strategy. I find the decision to cease releasing new products in these markets quite disappointing. Existing users in North America and Europe can still receive security patches and software updates. However, the brand will also provide ColorOS 17 as an update to OnePlus phones in these regions later this year. This update replaces OxygenOS, though users can roll back to their original software if they dislike the change. The company also shut down its US community forums on August 16. Will the loss of these community spaces permanently damage the brand’s connection to Western users? I consider the removal of independent presence a blow to the brand. The last phone to land on US shores was the OnePlus 15 in 2025. In North America and Europe, Oppo will provide ColorOS as an update to OnePlus phones after the release of ColorOS 17 later this year. Users do not have to take this update if they prefer to stay with the OxygenOS software.

Service integration in India

Service consolidation in India and other markets signals a shift toward a sub-brand status. In April 2026, OnePlus transitioned its Indian users to the OPPO service network to increase coverage by 50%. This integration follows years of increasing synergy between the two entities, which already share significant hardware components and software resources. Industry analysts suggest this move points to a potential scale-back or a total cessation of independent operations. While OnePlus executives deny plans to dissolve the brand, the convergence of supply chain integration and leadership changes creates a climate of uncertainty. The Bloomberg report suggests the withdrawal from the US and Europe will expand to include India in 2027. This would leave OnePlus active only in the Chinese market. I am concerned that the brand will lose its ability to compete as a standalone entity. OnePlus officials claim the transition in India reinforces rumors regarding a possible OnePlus shutdown in selected markets. This integration in India is a significant development. I think the move toward sub-brand status is the most dangerous outcome for enthusiasts.
