Postman API agentic testing and the 2026 market shift

Postman's March 2026 pricing changes and the $8 billion Salesforce acquisition of Informatica are reshaping the API tool landscape. Developers are increasingly evaluating alternatives like Bruno and Hoppscotch as Postman restricts free tier access to a single user.

Postman API agentic testing and the 2026 market shift

Postman pricing changes and the search for alternatives

Postman restricted its free plan to a single user on March 1, 2026. Small teams that previously shared a workspace for free now pay $19 per user per month for the Team tier or $49 for Enterprise. This change drove search volume for "postman pricing" and "postman alternatives" to 720 monthly searches. A five-person team spending $1,140 a year on Postman Team seats can run the same workflow on Bruno for $0. Bruno stores requests and environment variables as plain text .bru files on disk. These files live in the same git repository as code and show up in normal diffs and pull requests. Insomnia, owned by Kong, provides Git Sync for up to three users on its free tier. Using the Scratch Pad mode, developers can fire off a request without creating an account. Hoppscotch, which serves over 3 million developers, remains the most-starred project in this group with 80,028 GitHub stars. Hoppscotch allows unlimited workspaces and collections for individuals. Postman also limits free tier users to 25 collection runs per month. This restriction applies to collections run in a workspace or the Scratch Pad using the manual run option. Prior to the March 2026 update, small teams shared a Postman workspace on the free tier with no run limit.

AI agent reliability and data management

Salesforce announced an agreement to acquire Informatica for $8 billion in May 2025. This acquisition strengthens the data backbone for agentic AI by embedding Informatica’s data catalog, integration, and governance into the Salesforce platform. This move addresses criticism that agentic approaches lack native access to core company data. Postman achieved the AWS AI Competency in Agentic AI Tools to support the development and management of AI systems. The AI Agent Builder uses Postman Flows, a visual low-code canvas, to let users drag and drop components so they can call an API, feed results into an LLM, and loop through answers without writing custom glue code. This tool treats LLMs as first-class citizens via an AI Protocol. Postman’s AI Agent Builder can turn any existing collection into a production-ready MCP server. Users can use an AI Request block to prompt models from OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic to suggest test cases. The Postman API Network contains over 100,000 public APIs. This allows an agent to find and integrate external services for testing. Users can define multiple sets of inputs using the Scenarios feature in Flows to simulate how an agent behaves with different data. Does the increase in AI capabilities offset the rising cost of seats for small teams?

Tool choice for specific developer workflows

Postman is the choice for large organizations needing centralized governance and cloud-hosted mock servers. The platform uses the Newman CLI to run collections in CI/CD pipelines. If you manage existing workflows, you already know the difficulty of migrating documentation and CI pipeline configurations to a new tool. Postman’s Enterprise plan includes SSO, SCIM, and audit logs. Large organizations using Postman might find that migrating dozens of engineers’ muscle memory and documentation links carries high costs in engineering hours. For teams requiring specialized protocol support, Insomnia is the strongest contender. Insomnia supports gRPC, SOAP, and SSE natively without requiring a plugin. Insomnia’s Pro plan costs $12 per user per month and includes permission management at the workspace and request level. Bruno provides an offline-first, git-native client for developers. Hoppscotch provides a browser-based option for users who want to test an endpoint without installing anything. For developers working in Chrome DevTools, API Dash is a 247KB extension that stores requests and history locally in the browser using IndexedDB. It provides code generation in 11 languages and cURL import and export functionality.

Tool Free Tier Limit Team Pricing (Annual)
Postman 1 user $19/user
Insomnia 3 users $12/user
Hoppscotch Unlimited $6/user
Bruno 2 workspaces $6/user
